The Parade of Standards
The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York, a former Bomber Command Airfield, was the scene for a memorable day to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain.
It was the largest event of its kind to be held in the north of England.
They combined it with their Allied Forces Commemoration Day and present were Col Paul Keddy, Canada and Squadron Leader Chris Webb Australia and a representative from France.
A Service was held in the main Hanger with music by the York Railway Institute Band.
Present were The Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Hon Susan Cunliffe-Lister, representing The Queen, The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall Sir Stephen Dalton KCB ADC BSC FRAeS CCMI RAF, The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York with Lady Mayoress and the Sheriff of York.
The Standards of the RAF Associations, Other Forces Associations, Royal British Legion, Air Training Corp, were paraded into the Hanger for the Service and the National Standard of the Air Gunners Assoication, which is 'laid up' at the Allied Forces Memorial, was on display.
